Welcome to Season Two of the I Crush Barbecue Show!!
In our 3rd Episode of the Season, I chat with my friends Kristen and Stephen Rossler of Rosslers Blue Cord Barbecue in Killeen Texas. They have an incredible story that couldn't fit into just one episode so we'll have a Part 2 Next week! In this first part we'll go into their backgrounds and where they "mostly " grew up. They're both well-traveled due to their military backgrounds, Kristen was a military brat and Stephen is in the last leg of his military service, he's due to retire later this year. Stephen has been known to help out many folks in the barbecue community and he truly appreciates the comradery which is similar to what he's had in the Military. At one point he had no idea what he'd do once he retired but that all changed a few years back when he found his calling in the Barbecue World. BTW he has connections to California BBQ! Kristen has the small business and restaurant experience and she's found a new love of playing with fire! Together they're an all-star couple and it was a pleasure to chat with them. He got married and started looking to do side jobs and found his love for Barbecue. A few years later after having children, Matt was looking to spend more time with the family and he decided to dig into Barbecue. With a lot of hard work and determination he has turned Barbecue into his Main source of income and he has big plans for the future. WELCOME TO SEASON 2!!!
My first Episode of the season is an incredible story of High School Kids in Barbeque! I chatted with Ms Sarah Allen at Lubbock-Cooper High School in Lubbock Texas and some of the members of their bbq competition teams! The team is made up of an equal number of male & female students and they all share the responsibilities of preparation & execution. They are cooking on stick burners, some schools even have programs where students are building pits, more to come on that, they are cooking several proteins and making sides as well! Part of their training includes getting a little help from the Pro’s! The end goal is to make it to the state competition and bring home the Championship. This story gives us a glimpse into what’s happening in the HIGH SCHOOL BBQ scene and it’s a feel good story of how the awesome culture is now embracing our youth! Snow’s pitmaster Tootsie Tomanetz doesn’t play favorites when it comes to smoking meats, as evidenced by this delectable sampler, which showcases why Snow’s has long been recognized as the top barbecue in Texas.
The “Tootsie” Sampler includes:
1 Beef Brisket (approximately 4-5 lbs): trimmed and oak-smoked low and slow for 10 to 12 hours, producing a perfectly crisp bark, divine smoke ring and moist center.
1 Pork Steak (approximately 2 lbs): bone-in and memorable, a house specialty and local favorite that highlights the brilliance behind barbecuing thick, juicy upper shoulder cuts.
2 rings of Snow’s Original or Jalapeño Sausage (approximately 2 lbs): made from a house blend of beef, pork, and spices in a natural casing, slow cooked, and infused with oak smoke.

In this Episode I chat with my buddy, Bryan Gonzalez, you might remember him from episode 11 when I interviewed him and Robert Sierra of SS Pit Crew. Since then Bryan has made a decision to move on from his full time job and his Barbecue Competition team in order to focus his attention on Barbecue Full time. No, he's not starting his own business just yet, instead he was offered an opportunity to work at one of the Top Barbecue Joints in the Country! Although it means uprooting his life in San Marcos Texas, he is extremely excited to learn from one of the best in the business. He's been doing BBQ Runs before BBQ Runs were cool. He completed the 2017 Top 50 List in 7 months and has been to countless other joints in and out of Texas. A True fan of the Craft, Josh has developed great relationships with some of the top PitMasters in the business and this Sunday Dec. 8th he had his first annual PopsPost Christmas Party where some of those friends came out to share their amazing skills. In this episode I chat with Tedd Romero of Sticky Business Barbecue in Napa California. I first met Tedd and his wife Alesha at the LA Food Bowl earlier this year and recently ran into them at the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival. Tedd is a trained Executive Chef turned Pitmaster and Alesha is an Accountant. They've been popping up in Napa, Oakland and San Francisco for the past 3 years and they're excited to bring Craft Barbecue to their Local Community. In this Episode I interview the very talented Photographer and Entrepreneur, Ben Sassani. This Family Man who got into photography to take clear pictures for his family Albums, has converted this passion into a successful career. He photographs beautiful ethnic weddings and also has a project entitled Shoot My Chef which was an Idea from a late friend of his. We chat about his photography business, his side projects and dive deep into his latest creation, BBQ Confessional which has taken the BBQ Community by storm. BBQ Confessional is a series of personal stories that are usually reserved for close friends and family but Ben manages to get the stories out. You can find the narratives featured on Instagram with a beautiful Black and White portrait of the Author. We'll get the inside scoop on some of these stories and learn how the process works.
